Oh…My Aching Back!!! Are You Tired of the Nagging Low Back Pain?

Low back pain, whether acute or chronic, is the number two reason for a visit to the doctor’s office (colds and flu are number one). People who are seeking relief from the pain are most often given some form of pain reliever and/or anti-inflammatory. These medications carry the risk of side effects and long-term use can be harmful to your health and well-being. Many people have tried the pain medications, physical therapy or chiropractic services with disappointing results.

Acupuncture can help!

Research is showing that acupuncture provides true pain relief. An analysis of twenty-two studies on acupuncture and lower back pain completed by the University of Maryland Medical Center shows that acupuncture is clearly effective in providing considerable pain relief. How does Acupuncture relieve low back pain?

The Chinese believe a blockage of the Blood and Qi causes inflammation which leads to the pain. This blockage can occur from injury, decreased activity as a result of the injury, a weakness in the lower back, a depletion in Kidney Qi or a general lack of vitality. The circulation of the blood becomes impaired. The proper circulation of blood is necessary for the inflamed tissues to heal. The ancient saying goes, “If there is free flow, there is no pain. It there is no free flow, there is pain.” This condition is common in the elderly population. Acupuncture gently and naturally opens the flow of circulation so healing occurs and the pain will go away.

Let me tell you a story about one of my patients...

Ester is an eighty-year-old woman who came to me because her back pain was interfering with her life. Previously she had tried physical therapy and pain medications that caused side effects. She was now requiring the use of a cane and many household tasks were not getting done. Her social and volunteer life were being curtailed. She was getting frustrated and felt the quality of her life was slipping away. Following the first treatment she was using the cane less and eventually came into my office without the cane at all! She was soon able to complete her household tasks, enjoy her social life and volunteer work and walk without the cane... pain free by the end of treatments.

What New Day Acupuncture can do for you.

In my experience, low back pain can be treated effectively with acupuncture with lasting results. Treatment is most often two times a week for the first two to three weeks to provide relief from the immediate symptoms and then one time a week for two to four more weeks to provide the deep healing so the pain will not come back.

Acupuncture provides long term relief for your low back pain. Check out more information here.
